Once your comprehensive evaluation is done, dental cleaning schedule can be established. Regular cleaning, adult prophy in professional terms, is the MOST important part of your oral health care and maintenance. It is recommended by the American Dental Association to visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams. Frequency of professional cleaning or periodontal maintenance will be discussed based on your gum health status. For patients with healthy gum, 6 months interval is most common recommendation. Cleanings keep your teeth clean and nice as well as control the bacterial number in your mouth. Deep cleaning of certain areas may be advised on the need basis.
During your cleaning appointment, your dental hygienist will thoroughly clean, rinse, polish your teeth and gum. Also she will aid Dr. Chung in checking for any cavities, problems or signs of gum disease.
