DENTAL CROWNS

Seattle Dental Implants & Prosthodontics – Seattle, WA

Our goal is to provide comprehensive, quality dental work that appears almost identical to your natural teeth. We replace existing crowns and fillings with restorations that look and feel like your natural teeth.

For teeth that have lost significant amount of their chewing surface due to any reason such as deep decay, damage or wear, crown treatment can restore their function and protect them from further harm. Crowns or ‘caps’ are placed over the entire tooth to achieve the same aesthetically pleasing  look as veneers. There are several options of materials that can be used to create a crown to ensure improved strength, bite and function. Where damage to a person’s teeth is extreme and may be beyond repair, porcelain or porcelain bonded to gold crowns can be used to make the smile appear like-new. We are renowned for the quality of our work and the fantastic changes we make for people using this technology. These treatments can be utilized as an option for the correction of major dental problems.

How long does it take to fit a dental crown?

For a single crown, this requires two visits to our office. Initially, we will ‘prep’ the tooth which involves removal of decay, shaping of the tooth, make an “impression” molding, and fitting it with a temporary crown to wear while the crown is being fabricated in the lab. On the subsequent appointment, we will remove the temporary crown and then fit and adjust the final crown and then cement it with permanent cement.

For patients requiring multiple crowns, the sequence of events may be different and most likely require more than two visits. If you are having full mouth reconstruction, an initial appointment to fabricate a ‘provisional’ or temporary crowns and/or bridges will be required prior to prepping the teeth so the patient has a natural look to fill the spaces while the permanent crowns or bridges are being processed at the lab.

What are the capabilities of crowns?

Crown and bridgework are very reliable solutions for major dental problems caused by accidents, diseases, or wear and tear. Significant problems can usually be corrected using these techniques. Materials used in these repairs are either high-grade ceramics or porcelain bonded to gold which are the preferred materials to use to treat the most serious dental problems. In instances where trauma has occurred resulting in the loss of teeth, where teeth have broken away through excessive wear, or tooth damage caused by old fillings breaking down, crowns and/or bridges can be used as a long-term solution.
